 Creating MDaemon Accounts

If you want all of your users to have their email account on a particular email server, and your SMTP/POP3 server is an Alt-N MDaemon v3 or later, WorldClient Pro can be seamlessly synchronized with MDaemon so that creating an account in one will cause an account to be created in the other as well.

Note

In order to use WorldClient Pro/MDaemon Version 3 synchronization, both products must be installed on the same machine. For more information regarding the synchronization of WorldClient with MDaemon, see:WorldClient/MDaemon Integration.

If for some reason you do not want to install WorldClient on the same machine as MDaemon, there is still a method available to you for automatically creating MDaemon accounts. A free utility is available called MDADDUSR that can be used for this purpose. When a user creates a WorldClient Pro account, this utility will automatically create an identical account on your MDaemon server, and configure their WorldClient Pro account to collect messages from it.

To enable WorldClient Pro to automatically create MDaemon accounts when the two products are installed on different machines:

  1. Go to ftp://ftp.altn.com/supplementals/ and download MDaddusr_30.zip for MDaemon 3.0 or later (MDAddusr202.zip for earlier versions) and Unzip the file.

  2. Place the contents of the ZIP file (mdaddusr.exe, mdaddusr.ini, and mdaddusr.txt) into MDaemon's "...\app\" directory (this step is recommended but not required). MDadduser.exe needs access to mdaemon.ini located in MDaemon's "..\app\" directory.

  3. Configure MDADDUSR by following the instructions contained in mdaddusr.txt file.

  4. In the NewAccountExecutable key of the domains.ini file (located in the [Default:Settings]section), specify the file path to mdaddusr.exe (usually, "[drive]:\mdaemon\app\mdadduser.exe"). You can edit the WorldClient.ini file by using the Remote Administration Interface.

  5. Set the default domain name to be used with these accounts, i.e. the "domain.com" portion of "Frank@domain.com". This setting is called DefaultDomain and is located in the [Default:Settings] section of the domains.ini file. You can manually edit this file by using a text editor, or you can use the Remote Administration interface.
